Good one. And where is your solution for the problem. That's the funny thing. Republicans have been wanting lower and lower taxes since the 80's, which in return, the economy has done just the opposite. Clinton created 21 billion jobs with the highest tax rates since well before Regan. Bush created under 3 billion jobs with the lowest tax rates recorded. Republicans seem to ignore all the facts and just resort to name calling. Like what Nickatssc shows us. Spoken like a true Dumocrat. Real original. Are we in first grade?

We could rid ourselves of debt entirely if we did two things, one of which is NOT to raise taxes.
1. STOP IMMEDIATELY ALL UNCONSTITUTIONAL spending, that includes contributions to foreign countries, most entitlement programs, most ear marks, etc.
2. Get rid of EVERY currently elected public servants, with the possible exception of a small hand full of those who adhere to the Constitution.

Reduce defense spending. It accounts for more than 60% of the Federal budget.

We need to raise taxes significantly on the wealthiest Americans, close corporate tax loopholes, and cut defense spending by a third. Period.

An interesting post, but I think you’re focusing too much on the income tax and short-term budget deficit issues, and not looking at bigger picture issues like entitlements and the overall national debt. I can’t think of anyone who’s arguing that an income tax hike alone can or should be used to close the current or projected deficits. The projected future deficits (and long-term debt problem) are driven largely by the mismatch between dedicated revenues (mostly payroll taxes) for Social Security/Medicare and the current “promises” for future benefits under these programs. There are plenty of ways to tackle these tough problems that have nothing to do with income tax increases. Focusing only on this narrow subset of the potential solutions only serves to confuse people who are trying to understand how we can constructively solve our nation’s problems.
